Discount grocer Aldi will create around 400 jobs at its new regional base in Goldthorpe, South Yorkshire.

The new site, which is expected to open in 2015, will incorporate a distribution centre and regional offices.

Liam Rafferty, financial and administration director at Aldi, said the regional distribution centre at Goldthorpe would provide a hub for Aldi‘s growing portfolio of stores across South and West Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.

The German firm said it would be recruiting staff this month.

Aldi recently reported £157.9m of UK pre-tax profits for 2012, a rise of 124 per cent as it opened its 500th store in the UK in October.

Verdict estimated Aldi will generate sales of £4.65bn in the year to December 31 against M&S‘s £4.85bn in the year to March.
