Online shoppers can receive their purchases within 90 minutes of ordering, as internet start-up Shutl has today announced the launch of a new, high-speed service.

The service, which was launched in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Manchester in August, and within London last year, now operates across a total of ten UK cities.

Shoppers in Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Liverpool will now also have access to delivery.

Fulfilling web orders from local stores rather than a centralised warehouse allows the company to deliver items throughout the week, and the service will initially be offered to the new cities through leading fashion brands Karen Millen, Oasis, Coast and Warehouse.

Other retailers are expected to become involved, as Shutl has recently won a various awards for supply chain excellence and technology innovation.

The move comes as a number of high street retailers focus their attention on e-commerce in a bid to compete with pure-play e-tailers such as Amazon, which was recently voted the UK’s best brand in a survey by online comparison site Kelkoo.

Tom Allason, Founder and CEO of Shutl, pointed out the company’s new development would allow it to serve around 40 per cent of the UK’s online shoppers.

“We are on track to providing high street retailers with a game-changing delivery proposition in time for Christmas, a key weapon in the battle for market share with Amazon and the other pure-play e-tailers,” he added.
