Online giant Amazon yesterday launched a one-hour delivery initiative in Manhattan, New York, as it continues to develop its premium Prime service.
The program, otherwise known as “Prime Now” includes several thousand products across the toiletry, toy and book categories and it is expected that the service will become available to additional cities next year, available to members of Amazon Prime who pay $99 annually for speedy delivery.
The retailer will use its new building on 34th Street in New York, to be mostly made up of office space, as a hub for the orders. “Prime Now” is free for two-hour delivery and priced at $7.99 for a one hour delivery slot. Customers will be able to track placed orders using Amazon‘s smartphone app.
Dave Clark, Amazon‘s Senior Vice-president of Worldwide Operations, said in a statement:
“There are times when you can‘t make it to the store and other times when you simply don‘t want to go. There are so many reasons to skip the trip and now Prime members in Manhattan can get the items they need delivered in an hour or less.”
