Thousands of Tesco head office workers will move onto the shop floor this week to help deal with the pre-Christmas rush, it was announced today.
Nearly 5,000 head office workers will be working in stores across the country, making this the biggest ‘Helping Hands‘ initiative that the retailer has run since the programme‘s launch more than 10 years ago.
The workers, who include buyers, lawyers, personnel managers and Directors, will work for two days each, providing an extra 60,000 hours of customer service in almost 1,000 stores.
This follows the news that 17.2 million people will still be finishing their Christmas shopping on December 24th, as revealed by research from Sainsbury‘s Bank.
The ‘Helping Hands‘ programme takes place every Christmas and Easter to support store teams and keep head office workers in touch with their customers.
Commenting on the scheme, Judith Nelson, Tesco‘s UK Personnel Director said: “I‘m really proud that so many colleagues will be swapping their desks for Tesco‘s shop floors this Christmas and supporting our commitment to deliver great service for our customers.
“I‘ll be joining the team at my local store near Cambridge and whether I‘m packing bags at the till or helping to fill our fresh fruit trays up, it‘ll be a great chance to meet new customers and colleagues.”
