Upmarket furniture retailer OKA has appointed retail veteran Peter Chappelow as non-executive chairman as it continues in its mission to be a £100m turnover company.

Chappelow has served as chairman at M&M Direct, art and craft retailer Baker Ross and parenting club The Bounty Group over the last decade.

Lady Astor, who runs the retailer and owns a fifth of the business, commented: “We continue to go from strength to strength and are confident that Peter will bring a fresh perspective and outlook that will help us to keep doing so. His wealth of experience will prove to be invaluable as we grow the OKA business and develop the brand.”

OKA operates 11 shops across the UK in affluent areas such as South Godstone, Surrey and Notting Hill, London and posted 10 per cent growth across all its sales channels last year, making a pre-tax profit of £1.46m. Online revenue is up 19 per cent so far in 2014, according to its interim statement.

Mr Chappelow said, “OKA is an iconic, unique brand with immense potential and inspirational founders. This is what has attracted me.”
