Homewares retailer Ikea has today announced that it is preparing a planning application to build a new store in the Calcot area of Reading.

Around 400 new retail jobs will be created if the development goes ahead, with roles including sales, interior design, logistics, restaurant, customer services and warehousing.

Four consultation meetings will be held in different locations in the Berkshire town during the week commencing September 20th so that local residents can scrutinise the retailer’s plans.

A new website displaying the plans has also been created and will be launched on September 16th.

The new store will be the first for the retailer in the area with residents of the Thames Valley currently having to travel to either Wembley in London or Southampton to shop at a bricks and mortar Ikea store.

Calcot is very close to the M4 motorway and Ikea has said that the construction will offer easy access to local bus routes.
