UK consumers have been flocking to John Lewis to buy the spotted teapot featured in the retailer’s recently launched TV marketing campaign.
A statement published today by the department store business shows that one teapot sold every 15 minutes last week following its appearance on the advert.
The ad, which features a cover version of the Elton John hit single Your Song performed by musical rising star Ellie Goulding, was launched on November 13th.
Meanwhile, overall John Lewis sales between Sunday November 21st and Wednesday November 24th were up 12 per cent year-on-year and revenue increased by 29 per cent when compared to the same period in 2008.
Commenting on this week’s trade so far, Director Selling Operations for John Lewis Nat Wakely said: “We have seen another double-digit increase for the first half of this week, spread evenly across home, fashion and electrical merchandise.
“Every shop has put on a strong performance so far and online is continuing to storm ahead.
“Top branches this week to date are Oxford Street, Peter Jones, Peterborough and Cambridge.”
John Lewis also predicted that iPods are set to be a top-selling product again this Christmas as it has sold the equivalent of one every minute last week.
