Freight forwarding and supply chain solutions provider Damco has launched a new service that promises to help retailers source goods from overseas more efficiently.
The end-to-end logistics solution, dubbed Damco Retail Direct, could help companies reduce their landed costs by up to 20 per cent.
Interested retailers can arrange a trial with Damco, with the supply chain firm offering to deliver goods at a cost that matches their existing solution.
Richard Morgan, Chief Commercial Officer at Damco, said: “Damco has a simplified way of helping the customer select the optimal transportation mix based on days, cost and carbon rather than merely on mode of transportation.
“We can provide visibility to our customers’ supply chain from the point of manufacture to the final destination with no IT integration required.
“This ensures that the customer always knows what is happening with the shipment, thus being in control and able to reduce non-value added activities and carbon emissions to a minimum.”
Damco is the logistics arm of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group, and started trading under its current name in September 2009.
Services provided to its retail industry customers include the management of raw material sourcing, as well as the production, shipping and delivery of goods.
