Andrew Street has been named the new CEO of Irish supermarket group Superquinn, effective from December 2nd.
His CV includes 12 years at Boots as a board member and director, but he takes on his new role having been Chief Operating Officer of Dunnes Stores for the last 12 years.
Being in charge of an Irish retailer in the country’s current economic climate is certain to be tough job, but Superquinn does have plans to expand its store portfolio and create retail jobs in the months ahead.
Executive Chairman of Superquinn Simon Burke, who has led the group since it was purchased by Select Retail Holdings in 2005, will now become non-executive chairman and give up his day-to-day management responsibilities.
Street said: “These are challenging times for business in general and retail in particular, but Superquinn has a great heritage with loyal customers and I am very much looking forward to working with the team to build on the great work they have been doing.”
Burke added: “I am delighted to welcome Andrew to Superquinn.
“He brings a broad range of proven management skills and a wealth of retail experience and knowledge of the Irish marketplace, which will be of great benefit to Superquinn as we continue our recovery.”
