Sports retailer JD Sports is utilising a new data management system created by VSC Solutions, which will improve its distribution routes.
The Transend Delivery Management System (DMS) connects back office data directly with on route vehicles and drivers.
JD Sports believes that the sharing of route planning, stock-keeping unit details and delivery information will be greatly improved by this new system.
Tim Edwards, JD Sports’ Loss Control Director, commented: “We have clear ideas of how this technology can bring efficiencies and cost savings to our business, including faster consolidation of stock for improved movement around the country and more secure stock tracking to reduce losses.”
Approximately 70 Motorola MC65 handheld devices will be distributed to drivers to track deliveries and keep them updated, through a system supplied through Opaltech International.
The supply chain for JD Sports covers 500 stores across the UK and accurate and fast delivery data is essential to keep this network running.
Stock control is a big issue during this festive season, and any system that can help the retailer keep track of its supply level is very timely.
Edwards added: “Transend provides us with valuable, real-time information and visibility of our delivery operation using our own performance measures and working practices.”
