Halfords appoints new Brand Marketing Director


Bike and car parts retailer has named Gerry Murphy as Group Brand Marketing Director, effective from January 4th 2011.

The new recruit will join from the owner of phone directory group 118 118, The Number, where he held the position of CEO.

Murphy has extensive retail experience having worked at Superdrug and Matalan, where he was Marketing Director and Head of Marketing respectively. At the health and beauty business he was responsible for launching the company’s first transactional website.

David Wild, CEO of Halfords, commented: “Gerry has an impressive track record in brand development with leading retail companies.

“He also has considerable commercial experience and in depth knowledge of both on and offline channels.

“I am delighted to welcome him to Halfords as we deliver the next stage of our strategy for long-term sustainable growth through our stores, at Halfords dot com and the national launch of our rebranded Halfords Autocentres.”

Halfords recently announced that it has added a new gift card to its range of marketing initiatives.

The card, which comes in denominations of £10 or £25, can be used across its network of UK stores and can be bought in other major retailers such as Morrisons, Boots, WHSmith, Clinton Cards, Co-op and Tesco.
