Incoming Tesco CEO Philip Clarke has today confirmed the full composition of the retailer’s new executive team, effective from when Sir Terry Leahy steps down in March.
Seven new members join the existing seven directors who already make up the Executive Committee which operates below board level and monitors performance across the whole group.
Reporting directly to Philip Clarke will be Gordon Fryett, responsible for group property strategy, Alison Horner, Group Personnel Director, Trevor Masters who is in charge of operations in eastern Europe and Mike McNamara, appointed today as Chief Information Officer.
UK Chief Operating Officer Bob Robbins and Laura Wade-Gery, Commercial Director for UK Clothing, will report to UK CEO Richard Brasher, whilst Internet Retail Director Ken Towle completes the appointments and will report to CEO of Services Andrew Higginson.
Clarke commented: “I am delighted that I have been able to bring together such a strong team which possesses the right blend of talent and experience needed to drive the company forward and take it to a new level.”
“Given that the size and scope of the business has grown enormously in recent years, it is now the right time to enlarge it.”
The last senior appointment missing from the Tesco set-up is a Group Commercial Director, which is expected to be made in the next few weeks, and this person will also join the committee.
Tesco announced last week that CEO of Tesco Mobile Lance Batchelor was leaving his position to be replaced by Graham Harris, and Clarke has been busy ringing the senior management changes ahead of his ascension on March 1st.
“This is a formidable group of people with an enviable range of talents gleaned over many years in Tesco and other organisations, both in the UK and overseas,” Clarke added.
