Wine specialist Majestic Wine has reported sales growth during the Christmas period at a time many other retailers’ trading performances were negatively affected by the snowy weather conditions across the UK.
Total UK store sales, excluding VAT, increased by 6.4 per cent in the nine weeks between November 2nd 2010 and January 3rd 2011.
Meanwhile like-for-like (LFL) UK store sales growth for the same period reached 3.7 per cent.
This sales growth comes as companies such as entertainment retailer HMV, cards specialist Clinton Cards and baby and maternity product provider Mothercare have all issued profit warnings after sales slumps over the festive season.

“I would like to thank our loyal customers for battling through December’s dreadful weather conditions to purchase their wine from Majestic.”
Majestic Wine reported in November that UK LFL retail sales rose by 7.6 per cent in the 26 weeks to September 27th, with profits up 20 per cent to £7.3 million.
The company said that its online operation was performing well, while its overall sales success has come at a time when a number of its rivals, such as Threshers, have disappeared from the high street.
