Automotive and leisure products retailer Halfords has named Claudia Arney as a non-executive director.
Having been Group Managing Director of Digital at Emap Inform, where she led the development of online publishing strategy, the move suggests Halfords will be paying close attention to its internet operation in the months ahead.
Last week the Halfords.com website was embarrassingly unavailable for more than 24 hours after the company did not renew the domain name in time.
The retailer will be hoping that with Arney’s guidance and experience in internet strategy similar mishaps will be a thing of the past.
A spokesperson for Halfords told Retail Gazette: “Online is a growing part of our business and it is important to get people into the company who have knowledge in that field.”
Arney is currently a board member of Transport For London, a non-executive director of Doctors.net.uk and a member of the Advisory Group to the Shareholder Executive of the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.
Prior to her role in publishing, she held positions as Director of the Enterprise and Growth Unit at HM Treasury, Executive Director at Goldman Sachs and Head of Product Development at FT.com
Dennis Millard, Halfords Chairman, commented: “Claudia brings extensive experience of strategy formulation and business development particularly in the online consumer and media space.
“I am delighted to welcome Claudia to the Halfords board as we continue to deliver our plans for long-term sustainable growth.”
