Tesco’s reshuffling of its senior UK team continued today with the appointment of Ken Towle as its new Director of Internet Retailing.
The new recruit, who has 25 years’ experience at the grocer and has held a number of senior positions at the firm, joins the UK operation after successfully leading Tesco China as CEO for the last five and a half years.
Back in November, Tesco announced that like-for-like sales in China during the nine weeks to October 31st increased by 8.3 per cent year-on-year, highlighting the good work Towle had achieved in the increasingly important Asian market.
In his new role in the UK he will report to Director of Retailing Services, Andrew Higginson, and today’s announcement comes after the supermarket group last week named its new-look team to run the company’s UK operation.
From March, Noel Robbins will be Chief Operating Officer, while the commercial directors will be Per Bank and current Tesco.com boss Laura Wade-Gery.
The job of Property Director has been given to Kevin Grace, with David North and Judith Nelson becoming Corporate Affairs Director and Personnel Director respectively.
Along with Mike Iddon and Carolyn Bradley, who will continue their respective roles as directors of finance and marketing, the team will report to Tesco UK CEO Richard Brasher.
Commenting last week, Brasher said: “I’m very pleased to have such a strong team to run the UK business.
“Together we have huge experience across all aspects of our business, with a unique combination of both international and domestic expertise.”
