The Co-operative appoints new Marketing Director

The UK’s largest mutual retailer The Co-operative Group has announced the appointment of Gill Barr as Group Marketing Director, following several managerial departures last year.

Barr takes on the role vacated by Patrick Allen who left in July last year, shortly after the exit of Debbie Robinson in January and prior to Susan Beetlestone stepping down in November.

Having recently completed an interim assignment as Head of Marketing at Mastercard in the UK and Ireland, and having also held senior posts at John Lewis, Woolworths and Superdrug, Barr brings with her an multitude of experience.

Co-operative Group CEO, Peter Marks, said: “I am sure that her tremendous breadth of experience will make a significant contribution to the Co-operative Group’s development.”

The Co-operative stands as the fifth biggest food retailer in the UK with an annual turnover of £14 billion, employing 120,000 staff and diversifying into areas from finance to funeral directories.

Commenting on her appointment, Gill Barr said: “The Co-operative’s recent rejuvenation has established great foundations for the future and I’m looking forward to using my retail and financial services experience to help drive the Group forward.”
