Tesco customers will be able to revamp their wardrobes this spring without paying the spring VAT increase thanks to a new offer from the supermarket.
Having recently reported a steady but unspectacular sales performance over the Christmas period, the grocer has launched a new 20 per cent off sale that it hopes will draw shoppers in.
Its sale will give customers deals on a variety of adult clothes as well as top-end electronic goods such as Dell laptops and the new Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Kari Daniels, Tesco’s Non-Food Marketing Director, said: “Tesco’s 20 per cent off savings mean VAT-Free shopping - whether that’s on luxuries like a fashionable jacket or lovely lingerie - or basics to make their lives easier such as laptops.”
The VAT increase could see retailers lose up to £2.2 billion in sales during the first quarter of 2011, according to Kelkoo and the Centre for Retail Research, and Tesco’s move appears to be an effort to encourage consumers to keep shopping.
