Employees at UK supermarket chain will share a bonus pot of around £26.9 million after successfully meeting targets, it has been revealed this morning.
Ahead of full-year results announced later today, Asda has confirmed that full-time workers at its 389 UK stores and 19 distribution depots will receive a bonus of up to £350 each.
A super-bonus of as much as £437 will be awarded to over 20,000 colleagues who have exceeded their annual target, with the top performing UK stores located in Greenhithe (England), Stenhousemuir (Scotland), Llangefni (Wales), and Bangor (Northern Ireland).
CEO and President of Asda Andy Clarke commented: “There is no doubt in my mind that the colleagues working in our stores and depots are the heroes of our business.
“They have worked incredibly hard this year to deliver the best for our customers - taking everything from the difficult economic climate to the great British weather in their stride. I take my hat off to them.”
Asda has come under increasing pressure from competitors during the last year, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel data suggesting that Sainsbury’s may overtake it as the UK’s second largest retailer.
After like-for-like (LFL) fall in sales during the second quarter of last year Clarke admitted that the retailer’s previous food quality needed to improve but after a re-launch of its own brand goods in September LFL trade grew again in Q3.
Clarke added today: “Our bonus payout is directly linked to our stores’ performance, so to be able to offer a bonus to our colleagues during challenging times, is testament to the fact that we are giving consumers what they want - quality, value and service every day.”
