Ewan Pinder has been confirmed today as the new Head of Technology of entertainment retailer HMV, starting immediately.

His previous role was as Manager for Merchandising and Store Development for electricals retailer Comet, which he had held since January 2010.

Pinder will head up a four-strong technology management team for the retailer, with Ricky Gordon as Technology Manager, Rob Mason as Senior Technology Buyer and Technology Buyer Dean Millward.

A HMV spokesman said: “Technology plays an increasingly important role at HMV, with like-for-like sales growth up 20 per cent in 2010, as the retailer diversifies its product mix across popular culture and continues with its transformation into broad-based entertainment brand.”

After joining Kesa-owned Comet in September 2001, Pinder has only spent a year away form the company, when he joined Homebase in January 2009 as Category Manager for Seasonal and Garden.

HMV started selling electrical products in selected stores last summer, as the struggling retailer has attempted to expand its product offering as core CD & DVD sales have stalled.

Major changes were made to the HMV board earlier this month, with Robert Swannell standing down as Chairman and Philip Rowley taking his place.
