Sainsbury’s Clothing Director chooses M&S not Asda


Marks & Spencer (M&S) has said it is “absolutely delighted” about securing the services of former Sainsbury’s Clothing Director Sara Bradley, who was due to join Asda later this month.

Describing Bradley to Retail Gazette as “one of the best in the business”, a spokesperson for M&S confirmed that the new recruit will become the latest high profile addition to its team.

“We have offered Sara a role as Head of Buying for Womenswear Brands, where she will be responsible for the per una and Limited Collection and are delighted that Sara is now joining us,” the spokesperson commented.

“There was a position available and she arrives at M&S with a fantastic reputation.”

M&S’s poaching of the Sainsbury’s director follows the recent appointments of International Director Jan Heere and Executive Director of Multichannel E-commerce Laura Wade-Gery, who arrived from Inditex and Tesco respectively.

Asda announced in November last year that Bradley would be joining the grocer to become Head of Buying for Menswear and Childrenswear for its clothing division George.

Bradley’s change of heart will come as a blow to Asda George Managing Director Andrew Moore, who said at the time that her appointment was a major part of the company’s plans to double sales by 2016.
