Entertainment retailer HMV Group has today unveiled a new mobile app dedicated to its console games trade-in offer re/play.
The re/play app will allow users to check trade-in prices for second-hand gaming titles either by entering details manually or using the built-in barcode scanner.
Free to download and designed to work on both iPhone and Android platforms, the new app was developed by MoPowered, the m-commerce arm of the MoBank Group, and is available immediately.
Martin Baxter, HMV Games re/play and Range Manager, commented: “We’re incredibly proud and excited to be the-first-to-UK-market with a games trade-in app for iPhone and Android.
“This groundbreaking app will not only become a must-have download for current trade-in users, but will encourage a whole new range of customers who may have previously lacked the confidence or awareness to trade their games in.”
Games traded in through the re/play scheme are exchanged for credits that can be used to buy any products in the HMV range, as well as gig and festival tickets through the HMV tickets box office.
Mobank has previously developed two other mobile apps for HMV both for the iPhone, the HMV app which is a fully transactional mobile store and a Pure HMV app which allows customers to sign up to the company’s loyalty scheme.
David Rubin, Head of Mobile Commerce, said: “It’s been great working with HMV as they really see the value that mobile can bring to a retailer’s customer offering. With this suite of apps, they are allowing customers to perform useful tasks and interact with HMV in a meaningful way.
“The data we are seeing from the apps is very encouraging and shows that beyond the app hype, there is a very real customer appetite for mobile apps from high street brands.”
HMV posted its third profits warning of the year-to-date last week, as sales continue to falter in the group’s key market of CD & DVD sales.
