Consumer electronics retailer Maplin has today become the latest trader to announce changes to its multichannel proposition by launching a new iPhone application.
The transactional shopping app will give customers access to more than 15,000 products, as well as information on special offers, clearance items and the latest prices in store.
Customers are also able to use their mobile to find their nearest Maplin store thanks to the app’s geolocation technology. The app also supports the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and requires the iOS 3.0 operating system or higher.
David O’Reilly, Marketing Director at Maplin, commented: “The new iPhone Shopping App further strengthens our multichannel capabilities and complements our existing mobile website, making it even more convenient for our customers to shop at Maplin.”
Providing apps for iPhones and other smartphones is becoming an increasingly important part of retailers’ multichannel strategies, and a number of high profile businesses in the industry have announced m-commerce developments of this type in recent weeks.
TV shopping channel QVC and department store group Debenhams are among the retailers to unveil updated apps since the turn of the year, while in March fashion specialist French Connection launched its first ever app in partnership with mobile technology strategists Answer.
Commenting at the time, Digital Director at French Connection Jennifer Roebuck said: “Mobile commerce was the next step in our multi-platform digital strategy.
“The cloud-based app model from Answer means that all data is in one place to power real-time functionality for our customers and overcome potential integration issues.”
