Electricals retailer Dixons Retail has today launched a new online service offering paid-for computer game downloads.
Over 600 gaming titles for PC and Mac are now available via the new pcworlddownloads.co.uk, currysdownloads.co.uk and dixonsdownloads.co.uk sites.
An initial promotion by Dixons will see gaming bundles of four PC titles worth up to £45 given away to the first 10,000 registrants to the new websites.
Chris Rogers, Category Manager of Gaming at Dixons Retail, commented: “The new digital download site really enhances our existing gaming offering, which already encompasses the latest and greatest in consoles, gaming computers and hardware for all types of interactive players.
“With hundreds of games, from platform and puzzlers, readily available at the touch of the fingertips, we’re confident that the download site will be hugely popular.”
Dixons’ entry into the online gaming sphere will be seen as a direct challenge A1315|Game Group’s new strategy]], announced in February, which sees the retailer put more focus on multichannel trading.
Sales of video games fell 3.7 per cent last year, according to the Entertainment Retailers Association’s annual review, but rose 23.1 per cent in digital formats.
Customers of the new Dixons websites will also be able to take advantage of limited half price offers on selected PC games and all simulator titles following the launch.
