Claire Jenkins has today been announced as the newest member of sports retailer Sports Direct’s board, becoming a non-executive director for the company with immediate effect.
For the last year she has been Group Director of Corporate Affairs and a member of the Executive Leadership Team at global consumer packaging company Rexam, and also fulfils the roles of non-executive director for the Investor Relations Society and Trustee of Amicus.
Another recent addition to Sports Direct’s board was Charles McCreevy, an Irish politician and former EU Commissioner for Internal Markets & Services, who became a non-executive director for the company in April.
Dr Keith Hellawell, Non-Executive Chairman of Sports Direct, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Claire to the board of Sports Direct.
“Her broad corporate experience will be a great asset to the company, and her appointment further strengthens the board.”
Before joining Rexam Jenkins worked for ten years at Tobacco company Gallagher Group, where she was Director for Investor Relations and Group Planning until her departure in 2007
In results published last month Sports Direct posted a 10.3 per cent rise in total group sales for the nine weeks to March 27th 2011, continuing its strong performance seen throughout the year.
Retail gross profits grew 8.8 per cent during this nine week period and total EBITDA for the full-year is now expected to be at least £205 million when year-end results are published in July.
