The Mall at Cribbs Causeway has this week launched a smartphone app, which will play a key part of the south-west retail hub’s marketing strategy in the years to come.
Claiming to be only the second UK shopping centre after Westfield London to launch a free app, The Mall hopes to use the service to keep customers in touch with the events and offers from retailers located at the site.
By downloading the app, users will also be able to access the centre’s directory of shops, restaurants and other facilities.
Maria Crayton, Head of Marketing at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, which is located on the outskirts of Bristol, remarked: “Mobile phone apps are a prime way of connecting with our shoppers and ensuring they can make the most out of their visit to the centre.
“We are confident that our app … will be a key marketing tool for The Mall moving forward.”
Retail Gazette recently caught up with the Liz Mihell, Managing Director (MD) of Cribbs Causeway’s anchor store John Lewis, which has experienced a difficult trading environment so far this year.
Sales at the department store group are currently down 10.3 per cent year-on-year, but the MD attributes the performance to the late date of Easter and greater number of bank holidays in the UK this year.
“When you are the scale of regional destination that this shopping centre and our branch here is, the calendar and they way people are using their leisure time has a very big impact on the results we achieve,” she explained.
John Lewis is one of 130 stores based at The Mall, who will hope to benefit from the increased exposure they will receive following this week’s app launch.
