Handmade cosmetics retailer Lush Cosmetics is set to open a new concept store in Newcastle’s Eldon Square shopping centre, it was announced today.
The environmentally friendly firm is upsizing and relocating from a store outside of the centre to a prime 2,700 sq ft location next to Boots and opposite anchor store John Lewis in the main mall.
In keeping with its organic reputation, the new concept store in Newcastle has a living wall inside that features growing Aloe Vera plants to help insulate the store and purify the air.
Lush has been joined there by shoe retailer Hotter Shoes which is featuring in site owner Capital Shopping Centre’s portfolio for the first time by taking a 3,000 sq ft shop near to the new Lush outlet.
Martin Breeden, Director of Asset Management (north) at CSC London, said: “Lush has built a loyal fan base of shoppers with its handmade products and Hotter Shoes brings more quality to an already strong range of footwear retailers within Eldon Square.
“Following the recent opening of the successful Next flagship store, it reinforces Eldon Square as the prime retail location in Newcastle.”
As Retail Gazette discovered when it visited the prime retail site last month, Eldon Square is an established shopping hub for the whole north-east of England and since the centre was extended it has managed to add brands such as Superdry, Hollister and Apple to its mix.
Lush now has more than 650 stores in over 40 countries having been established in 1995 by Mark & Margaret Constantine who were both awarded OBEs in the last New Years Honours list.
