The future of 15 UK-based Sony Centres and their staff is currently uncertain after the administration of Sonex Communications, which owns the stores, was confirmed this week.
Business advisory firm BDO has been appointed as administrator, with the company’s David Gilbert and Andrew Beckingham seeking to find a buyer for the shops which are located across the country.
More than 100 Sony Centres are in operation throughout the UK, and it is only those owned by Sonex whose future is unclear.
The failed parent company operates 19 retail outlets throughout the UK, including 15 Sony Centres, two Sonex Presents Sony stores and the Sony Style store situated at Heathrow’s Terminal 5, in partnership with Sony UK.
Sonex’s administration was made official on September 13th 2011, and Sony this week assured customers that they will receive any pending orders made at the affected branches.
With approximately 100 jobs at risk, there was however no public reassurance to staff working at the 15 stores.
A spokesperson for the electricals retailer said: “Sony Europe will be examining options for the business and the stores moving forward, the details of which will remain confidential until a conclusion is reached.
“In the meantime all the stores will continue to trade as normal and all product warranties and customer orders related to Sonex Communications operated stores will be honoured.”
