Electricals retailer Maplin will be showcasing a new advert on major commercial TV channels later this week, it was confirmed today.

It has been seven years since Maplin last aired an advert on TV, with the new promotion, planned by media agency AdConnection, to be broadcast across the London region on channels ITV1, Channel 4 and Five.

In keeping with the main focus of most retailers in the sector at present, the ten and 30 second TV slots promote the retailer‘s service; with a couple shopping at one of the trader‘s stores being so impressed with their sales assistant that they want to take him home.

Chantel Clarke, Marketing Manager at Maplin, commented: “Maplin haven‘t featured on TV for seven years so we are very excited about this new project.

“Maplin operate over three distribution channels, and our unique strength is our excellent customer service and product knowledge. Rather than feature our extensive range of 15,000 products, we wanted to leverage on our service excellence”

Starting at a single store in Essex in 1972 before launching a mail order service, Maplin now runs around 180 shops across the UK and aims to operate as many as 250 domestically before expanding abroad.

In recent months the company has been enhancing it multichannel offer and now offers a Facebook store, mobile app and the option of a 90 minute delivery.

CEO of AdConnection Catherine Becker added: “We‘re delighted to be working with such a prestigious brand as Maplin with such a heritage on the high street and online, and to take it to the next stage of growth with this TV campaign.”
