Health & beauty retailer Boots has issued an apology today after erroneously notifying customers that they had won a holiday as part of a competition.

Social networking sites were awash with complaints from irritated customers who had received an email stating that they were the winner of a trip to Barcelona, before the offer was redacted by the retailer which sent a second email hours later explaining its mistake.

Run in partnership with hair products company VO5, the competition also offered a haircut by the brand and informed each of the nearly 10,000 entrants that they had won rather than select a single winner.

By way of an apology, Boots is to offer a second chance to win the Spanish holiday and will also offer £10 worth of Boots Advantage Card Points to all those who entered.

Mark Taylor, Head of Customer Support Centre at Boots UK, said: “We can confirm that unfortunately an email was sent in error this afternoon by one of our suppliers informing some of our customers that they had won a competition.

“Boots UK always aims to offer exciting competitions and money can‘t buy experiences and we are truly sorry for any upset that has been caused by this mistake.”
