Leading grocer Sainsbury‘s has appointed ex-Lloyds Banking Group director Angie Risley as its new Group HR Director, it has been announced today.

Risley will take over from Gwyn Burr when she officially stands down from her role in March 2013 and was also previously Group HR Director at Whitbread and Non Executive Director at Serco where she chaired its Remuneration Committee.

In her role at Sainsbury‘s, Risley will take charge of corporate, retail and logistics HR and will serve on the supermarket‘s Operating Board.

Justin King, Sainsbury‘s‘ CEO to whom Risley will report directly, said of the appointment: “Angie brings a wealth of experience having worked at board level in a number of large customer facing companies.

“Our people are the heart of our business and its success, driving great service every day for our customers, and Angie‘s track record and reputation make her an excellent addition to Sainsbury‘s leadership team.”

Last month, Sainsbury‘s announced its commitment to create 10,000 jobs in its flourishing convenience arm over the next three years as it continues to expand its reach and this week it emerged that the supermarket is growing its grocery market share ahead of rivals with year-on-year growth of 4.7 per cent in the 12 weeks to November 25th 2012.

”I‘m delighted to be joining one of the UK‘s largest and most successful employers,” Risley said.

“Sainsbury‘s is a fantastic “business with an incredible culture built by excellent people, and has earned a well deserved reputation as a great place to work.”
