UK wine specialist Majestic Wine saw total UK store sales rise 5.1 per cent during the Christmas trading period, new figures released today reveal.

In the seven weeks from November 13th to December 31st 2012, like-for-like (LFL) sales were up 1.1 per cent on the same period in 2011 though the retailer noted that festive trading conditions were “challenging”.

Such growth over the Christmas season has boosted UK LFLs for the first 39 weeks of the financial year to 0.8 per cent and Majestic Wine CEO Steve Lewis welcomed the results within such a difficult climate.

He commented: “While we saw encouraging sales growth over the period, the Christmas trading season was challenging with many consumers leaving their shopping until the very last moment.

“I would like to thank all those customers who chose to purchase the wine for their Christmas celebrations from Majestic.”
