Clothing brand George at Asda is to open its first franchise store in Malta as it continued with international growth plans, it has been announced today.

Situated in Hamrun‘s Daniels Shopping Complex, the 6,000 sq ft store will create a dozen new jobs and provide a strong growth platform for the retailer among locals and ex-pats, it is hoped.

Launched through franchise partner Cyka Limited, the store will offer “quality, high value clothing”, a statement from the grocer said, with more stores planning in the next two years as it targets locations in Sliema and Valletta.

George recently launched franchises in Sharjah, UAE and will open an additional store in Amman in May with further stores in Qatar and the UAE planned later this Summer.

Commenting on the move into Malta, George Retail & International Director Jo Whitfield said: “We‘re thrilled to be opening our first franchise store in Malta.

“Shoppers are looking for real value, as well as the highest quality clothing in the current economic climate for themselves and their families and that‘s exactly what the new George store will offer.

“Our Franchise Partner, Cyka Ltd, has a vast amount of franchise experience and we chose them because of their retail experience on the island, their professionalism, their passion and their commitment to bringing George to Malta.”

Last month, George announced the launch of new brand G21 Talent, a label supporting and championing emerging British talent and this latest push will also see the range made available to foreign shoppers, as well as its Moda range and a childrenswear collection.
