O2 will launch its 4G network later this month as it becomes the fastest growing 4G network in the UK.

The mobile phone provider, which launches in 29 August, plans for its 2G, 3G and 4G network to reach 98 per cent of the UK population.

Having invested £550m into securing one of the highest proportions of the UK‘s lowest frequency spectrum, O2 says that its 4G network will be live in 13 cities, including London, Manchester and Edinburgh.

Tariffs will start from £24 a month.

Recent research commissioned by eBay said that the arrival of 4G could lead to a potential £1.8bn of consumer spending being made available.

Olivier Ropars, senior director of mobile commerce, eBay said: “For retailers, it will enable delivery of a more immersive, instant and intimate shopping experience than ever before – putting the most exciting features of mobile retail into high definition.”

O2 will offer free 4G advice, a 30 day ‘Happiness‘ Guarantee and a free 12 month music content for those who buy a 4G consumer tariff direct from O2.
