Downloads of the money-saving app Vouchercloud have reached four million as shoppers continue to save cash through their smartphone.
Launched in February 2010, the app, which provides money off deals for companies including Tesco, Sports Direct and John Lewis, has helped UK consumers save over £90 million on everything from shopping to hotel stays.
The app, which is used by nearly 13 per cent of all smartphone users, has also been an international success with launches in USA, Canada, The Netherlands and Germany with a roll out in South Africa due imminently.
The most popular category is Casual Dining with Leisure and Entertainment coming a close second. Pizza and burger offers remain popular with fashion savings following close behind. Travel offers saw a surge of 111 per cent in redemptions.
Danielle Pinnington, CEO of shopper insight company Shoppercentric, said she wasn’t surprised to hear of the apps success. “These types of apps enable retailers and brands to create even better connections with existing and potential customers,” she said.
“Interestingly the older generation haven’t quite ‘tapped’ into using their smartphones to get great deals yet – but we fully expect them to catch on – but only when they realise that there’s something in it for them – a real shopper benefit.”
Vouchercloud’s online offering, home to thousands of online shopping codes, has also seen a 90 per cent increase in traffic over the past twelve months.
