Value fashion and homeware retailer Matalan will recruit over 4,000 temporary sales assistant jobs in preparation for the busy Christmas period.
The extra employees will be hired across 216 stores to assist the retailer for up to 12 weeks. The quota is lower than the 5,000 figure from last Christmas.
Mike Jeans, Retail Director, said: “We‘re looking for individuals who will contribute a little bit of sparkle to our stores during the festive season. We will be seeking to hire those who are happy, helpful, friendly and cheerful.”
Other retailers are hiring extra staff with Argos recruiting for 10,000 Christmas temps, down 12,000 from last year. Amazon is hiring 15,000 – up from last year‘s figure of 10,000.
