Grocer Asda has appointed former Tesco man Alex Russo as its new Chief Financial Officer.

Russo, who has a strong background in international retail, will take up the role from 6 January and succeeds Richard Mayfield who will join Walmart as CFO of its EMEA region.

Before serving as independent director at Peru-based Delosi, which specialises in restaurant franchises such as Starbucks, Pizza Hut and KFC, Russo was CFO of Tesco‘s South Korean business.

He has also worked for Kingfisher and Boots.

Asda president Andy Clarke commented: “With a strong pedigree as an international retail leader, Alex is a great addition to the Asda team. He will play a crucial role in delivering our new strategic priorities.”

Clarke added that departing Mayfield has “left the business in great shape for the future.”
