Former Coles executive George Dymond, who was hired by Morrisons to oversee its online operation, has resigned just weeks after joining.

He decided to leave this weekend after the role did not meet his expectations, according to the Financial Times.

Dymond was previously group general manager of merchandise at Coles and was trading director at Carphone Warehouse for ten years.

Britain‘s fourth-biggest grocer began its online grocery service on 10 January, which it launched with Ocado, and expects to be covering half the country by the beginning of 2015.

Morrisons reported a 5.6 per cent sales slump over the Christmas period as a lack of an online and convenience offering hit profits.
