Primark has confirmed it has bought The Pavilions shopping centre in Birmingham for around £60m.

The 250,000 sq ft shopping centre will house a 150,000 sq ft four story Primark store which will employ nearly 900 people.

430 staff will transfer from Primark‘s existing New Street store in the city centre, while 448 new jobs will be created at the Pavilions.

A Primark spokesperson said today: “We are delighted to demonstrate our commitment to Birmingham and our customers.

“We hope to build one of our biggest stores in this important city, and look forward to bringing the best of fashion, the best of everyday clothing and the best of homeware to our customers at the best value on the high street.”

Primark say they want to start construction work by mid next year and will now be seeking planning permission from Birmingham council for the large scale revamp.
