Home Retail Group, the parent company of both Argos and Homebase, have created the position of ‘Head of Trends‘ in an attempt to bring their less than glamorous subsidiaries up to speed on the latest fashions.

The woman for the job is Alexei Cowan, the style guru who has previously worked her magic at more style-conscious brands such as Laura Ashley, Next and Debenhams. On her appointment, Cowan commented, “I love helping buyers develop products in line with the latest trends – and keeping an eye out for the next big thing!”

Quite how Cowan is planning on developing Homebase‘s latest range of garden power tools in line with the latest trends is unclear, but if anyone can do it then Cowan can.

Argos has also announced the appointment of a new ‘Head of Own Brand‘, Alyson Lockley. Lockley, who previously worked at Johnson & Johnson, Boots, Pfizer and L‘Oreal. This is going to become an important position in the coming months as Argos focuses on boosting sales of own brand products, particularly in home ware and furniture with the launch of their own brand ‘Heart of House‘.
