Independent parcel carrier Yodel is recruiting 7,000 full-time and part-time workers, indicating the high volume of deliveries expected for Black Friday and Christmas.
Yodel is set to employ over 800 direct drivers who will be provided with a company branded van and uniforms. Additionally, Yodel is recruiting for around 3,000 owner drivers who are required to be in possession of their own vans. Both directly employed drivers and owner drivers will be based at their local service centres and provided with hand held devices to aid route planning.
3,000 self-employed couriers will join the company, using their own cars to collect and deliver smaller parcels.
“Our recent research has shown that the 2015 Christmas period is set to break the mould once again, with nearly four times as many people planning to take advantage of the Black Friday online promotions,” said Dick Stead, Executive Chairman of Yodel. “Our recruitment and training will support this increased demand and ensure that both our retail clients and shoppers have an enjoyable Christmas.”
While several retailers are likely to follow the same structure as Yodel and recruit for temporary positions over the festive season, many of the roles at Yodel will become permanent. This is due to the recent increase in the parcel carrier’s client base and subsequently Yodel’s training programme will ensure that the new recruits are ready for the peak period.
