Elisabeth Murdoch, founder of Freelands Group and Freelands Foundation, has been appointed to the board of luxury shoe retailer Jimmy Choo as an independent non-executive director. 

Ms Murdoch has held a number of positions in media and technology in the past. She was also the founder and a former chairman for the media production company Shine, which has produced popular shows such as Master Chef. 

She has spent some time working under her father, Rupert Murdoch, having served as a Managing Director for Sky as well as a overseeing the programming and marketing division of BSKYB before moving on to found Shine. She later sold Shine to her father‘s company 21st Century Fox in 2011. 

Jimmy Choo Chairman Peter Hard said that she will bring “a wealth of experience” to the company. 

While the premium brand has a high reputation, worn by celebrities at high profile event, the retailer is strugglingIt posted underwhelming financial results recently, after floating on the London Stock Market in 2014. Broker Liberum Capital downgraded its rating on Wednesday and cut its profit forecast by 19%, as a result of a wider slowdown in the luxury goods sector.
