Big Four grocer Morrisons has announced the appointment of Post Office Chief Executive Paula Vennells as its Non-Executive Director.

Vennells will join the board on 1 January 2016. Previously she held the role of Chief Executive of the Post Office since April 2012, having joined the company in 2007. Other roles include Group Commercial Director at Whitbread and positions at Unilever and L‘Oreal. She has also held director and marketing positions at a broad range of retailers including Argos and Dixons Stores Group.

The new Non-Exec Director is the latest of a set of recent employments under Morrisons‘ new Chief Executive David Potts, who is aiming to strengthen the business after undergoing considerable strain. This is something Potts has stated will be a “long journey”.

“I am delighted to welcome Paula to the board. Her experience of restructuring and building a retail operation at the Post Office, her background in FMCG and her experience as a serving CEO, will all be invaluable to the board going forward” said Andrew Higginson, Morrisons Chairman.

Vennells will replace Johanna Waterous who has served as Non-Executive Director for six years.

“I would like to thank Johanna for her help and support during my first year as chairman and for her work on the board over the last six years. We wish her well for the future” Higginson added.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to join Morrisons and to work with the board to help to contribute to the company’s turnaround” Vennells commented.
