Sports Direct released a timetable today which stated that non-shareholders are welcome to attend its AGM, allowing them to voice concerns about the company‘s controversial practices.

The event will take place on the September 7 at its headquarters in Shirebrook, from 11am to 5pm, and will be attended by the founder and executive deputy chairman Mike Ashley, the chairman Keith Hellawell and Dave Forsey the chief executive.

The retailer announced in a statement today: “The board would like to encourage all of those with questions about the company to attend … so that we may be able to answer as many questions as possible.”

This follows a period of almost constant scolding from the media, public and official bodies, all of which have recently called for Sports Direct to review its controversial working practices and its management.

Stakeholders have been urged against voting for both Hellawell and Ashley following the controversies in recent months.

In an unprecedented move of transparency, it will also offer a tour around its Shirebrook site, previously said to be run like a “victorian workhouse”.
