McColl‘s Retail Group has announced two new appointments to its operational board, with both of them previously holding senior management roles at Tesco.

Steve Goswell has been named as the new operations director of the company, which owns a chain of convenience stores, while Karen Bird is to become the new human resources director.

Goswell has already starting his role and Bird is set to join McColl‘s in early October.

Goswell‘s time with Tesco spanned 20 years, covering a number of senior roles such as regional store director, transformation director, and multichannel direct retail programme manager.

Meanwhile, Bird ‘s background with Tesco spans 30 years in a variety of operational and HR roles, most recently as people director where she led the HR transformation agenda for Tesco‘s UK operations.

McColl‘s chief executive Jonathan Miller said their skills would be “a considerable asset” to the company as they continue to expand.

“They will also help to ensure our customers and colleagues remain at the very heart of our proposition,” he said.

“Steve and Karen join at an exciting time for McColl‘s, particularly as we start planning for the transformational acquisition of 298 convenience stores from the Co-Op, announced in July.”
