Job Description

An ambitious discount retailer, with plans to open more units this year, requires a Buying Director to oversee the entire buying and merchandising function across its whole compliment of product areas. As the Buying Director, your responsibilities will be as follows: * Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will oversee the buying and merchandising function for over 25,000 products. * Managing the performance of a large buying team, setting/controlling budgets & OTB for each category. * Setting/measuring KPI's to incentivise performance and achievement of team targets. * Developing annual business plan for presentation to the board, comprising sales/stock forecasts and margin. * Reviewing trading plans with leadership teams, and implementing long-term strategies for all categories. * Defining the buying strategy, identifying opportunities and introducing new ranges. * Carrying out competitor analysis, reviewing market products/prices ensuring the range remains competitive. * Travelling to the Far East to source new ranges and negotiate prices with suppliers to achieve competitive rates. * Networking at trade show exhibitions, carrying out product comparisons and sourcing seasonal products. * Working with the marketing/design teams to create marketing literature for advertising campaigns. * Carrying out training analysis, identifying requirements and delivering ongoing coaching. * Overseeing production of the store catalogue, including content, promotions and overall design. You will be expected to have existing experience of either FMCG or non-food (or preferably both) product categories, with an in-depth knowledge of the Far East (including travel) and an understanding of how that supply base works. You will ideally be working at Buying Director or Manager/Controller level in a business of similarly large stature, and will be expected to travel to the head office in the East Midlands 5 days a week.
