Tesco has confirmed today that it has lodged a planning application for a new distribution centre in the Havering area of London.
Developer Spen Hill submitted the plans for the project on behalf of Tesco to Havering Borough Council.
The proposal is for a development at Beam Reach Business Park and is currently at consultation stage.
The application seeks full planning permission for the regional distribution centre, a processing facility for recycling used packaging and a vehicle maintenance unit at the site.
Outline planning permission has also been requested for additional warehousing and improvement to a local nature reserve.
Around 900 new jobs are expected to be created if the project goes ahead and the new centre will occupy over 500,000 sq ft.
A decision on the application is not due until November with comments from local residents due to be reported at the end of this month.
