Jet Pack Buzz Lightyear is set to be the top children’s toy this Christmas, according to research released today.
Moneysupermarket.com has predicted that out of the top 12 toys identified by the Toy Retailers Association (TRA) this week, the Toy Story 3 product will be the most popular on kids’ lists for Santa.
The other top five toys in descending order are Goodnight Iggle Piggle from the makers of the In The Night Garden TV show, the Harry Potter Legoland Hogwarts set, the Zhu Zhu Hamster and the Imaginext Bigfoot the Monster doll.
Simon James, a shopping expert at Moneysupermarket.com, said: “Toy Story 3 has been a massive film this year so it’s no surprise that the Toy Story 3 Buzz Lightyear action figure is going to be the biggest selling toy this Christmas.”
Rising toy prices may drain the Christmas cheer from parents’ cheeks this yuletide, as the average price tag of the TRA’s ‘Dream Dozen’ is 51 per cent more than the top 12 last year.
Research company Kelkoo has found that it is not just that this year’s list containing new higher priced goods but also that established favourites like the board game Monopoly have raised in price.
Monopoly Revolution, this year’s edition, retails at £29.99, 20 per cent more than the 2009’s version which cost £24.99 and 50 per cent higher than Monopoly Here and Now released in 2005.
In good news for beleaguered UK parents, Kelkoo research suggests that costs can be reduced on Christmas presents by as much as 20 per cent by shopping online.
Bruce Fair, Managing Director at Kelkoo, commented: “By shopping online well in advance, parents can be sure that their kids don’t wake up on Christmas morning with a stocking full of disappointment.
“They will also have the peace of mind that they are benefitting from the most competitive prices available.”
