Homewares and DIY retailer B&Q has announced today that it will start its January sales this week, earlier than ever before.
December 17th will see the retailer introducing massive discounts on many of its products in the hope of stimulating extra pre-Christmas trade.
Starting at 7am, the sales will be taking place online and in 330 stores and will feature more than 60 per cent discounts for some kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms and 15 per cent off all other products.
Euan Sutherland, CEO of B&Q and Kingfisher UK, commented: “As a result of the tougher financial conditions, we’re seeing more customers then ever opting to improve their homes, rather than moving.
“As a thank-you to all our DIY devotees we wanted to make sure that our January sale would be one worth talking about, with no gimmicks. It’s our biggest-ever sale with price cuts across a wider range of products.”
Heavy discounts have been a feature of many retailers’ pre-Christmas offer, and although the majority of retail companies believe sales will not be down on last year, some sectors have been performing worse than others.
Big ticket items have suffered due to falling consumer confidence and with VAT rising and government cuts due to be implemented in the new year, B&Q’s owner Kingfisher may be predicting a slow post-Christmas period.
Sutherland added: “We’ve also launched it earlier than ever because deciding on the right kitchen, bedroom or bathroom for your home takes time, with many customers booking in design consultations with our showroom experts.
“Customers will now have more time to plan, design and shop the range as well as spread the cost of what they’re looking for whatever their budget.”
