Suits retailer Moss Bros has reported strong sales for the period between August 1st and December 4th.
Trading levels for 18 weeks were 8.3 per cent ahead of the same period last year on a like for like (LFL) basis, while LFL sales for the 44 weeks to December 4th were 10.2 per cent up on 2009.
Moss Bros’ good progress comes as high street rival Suits You prepares to fold in the new year, after administrators made the decision last month to close down the business.
Suits You’s remaining stores will stay open over Christmas and the January sales period, offering heavy discounts to customers.
Brian Brick, CEO of Moss Bros, said: “Whilst the economy continues to be fragile, the group’s sales have traded well ahead of last year and this trend has continued so far throughout the second half, although the out turn for the full year depends on trading during the important Christmas period.
“In addition, we have continued to make good progress on our strategic priorities of improving the calibre of store management, improving operational processes, reviewing the look and product mix of the core Moss stores and testing our innovative Moss Bespoke concept, which we will begin to roll out in the early part of 2011.”
He added that the company is set to enter its key trading period in the best shape it has been in “for some time”.
