Kent based shopping centre Bluewater is running smile classes to improve its employees’ customer service ahead of Christmas trading.
Starting on December 14th members of the Bluewater staff will be taught the benefits of smiling by The Learning Shop, a free training and advice service.
The ‘Smile Goes a Mile’ campaign attempts to teach how smiling delivers outstanding customer satisfaction whilst also being thearaputic and a stress reliever.
Famous entrepreneur and TV star of Dragon’s Den Theo Paphitis, who is actively involved in retail staff training through his patron role of Skillsmart Retail, has backed the scheme.
Paphitis commented: “Providing a top quality customer service experience is key for retailers to guarantee customer satisfaction.
“Maintaining these standards during the peak retail season is important to generate loyal customers and secure high sales.
“The Bluewater ‘smile classes’ are a great way to motivate staff and highlight the benefits of service with a smile.”
Around 60 members of staff from the centre’s 330 stores will undertake the classes which will be held on four days over the Christmas period.
Bluewater General Manager Andrew Parkinson said: “We pride ourselves with very high customer service standards, which is reflected in Bluewater’s outstanding concierge offering.
“A smile can determine the difference between a positive guest experience, and a great guest experience.”
